Face Book?
Humm... I've been holding out as a last bastion of freedom from face book. Sigh... I may be the only one left. Is it really worth it though? I'm posting less often here and maybe a forum for my creative stuff may be easier... should I join? Can it have video? can it have picture archives? a Place to post comments? what's it really all for?!?!
BTW there's a poll there if you don't want to leave comments but want to weigh in.

What Blogs are for....
So, I started this blog to show off my creative stuff like photos. Well, after that class ended I found I had a lot to say. Now I've had more classes and less to say but I wrote huge intellectual stuff. (insert egghead picture here)
Yet, I somehow think if I were to even post one of my small expo-zay's (or however it's spelled) it would be quickly dismissed. I think people like creativity more that intellectual arguments true?

Philosophy Point of the Day
This was a point shared on a good friends Blog. I though the quote was interesting enough I Decided to do a good response. I personally love the response I wrote. I'm narcissistic. OR I've been doing an academic writing class... Tell what you think!
If I take a lamp and shine it toward the wall, a bright spot will appear on the wall. The lamp is our search for truth, for understanding. Too often we assume the light on the wall is God, but the light is not the goal of the search, it is the result of the search. The more intense the search, the brighter the light on the wall. The brighter the light on the wall, the greater the revelation upon seeing it. Similarly, someone who does not search, who does not bring a lantern with him, sees nothing. What we perceive as God is the by-product of our search for God. It may simply be an appreciation of the light, pure and unblemished. Not understanding that it comes from us, sometimes, we stand in front of the light and assume we are the center of the universe. God looks astonishingly like we do. Or we turn to look at our shadow and assume all is darkness. If we allow ourselves to get in the way, we defeat the purpose - which is use the light of our search to illuminate the wall in all its beauty and all it flaws, and in so doing, better understand the world around us.

So, I’ve been doing academic writing in college right now. The following response is directly due to the influence of that class. At least I think this is cool !
"The lamp is our search for truth, for understanding. Too often we assume the light on the wall is God, but the light is not the goal of the search, it is the result of the search."
Since this is an equating sentence lets substitute the words that it wants to replace. If we just look at the components and how they are used in the analogy we find some gaping holes that remain unexplained. Lamp=search for truth. Light=??? What is a natural byproduct of a search? “Light” would be a natural byproduct but it remains undefined. The wall object is also undefined. He does say, undefined light on undefined wall is assumed to be God; which is a superfluous statement. We don’t know the nature of the two undefined objects to assume they are God. If we make rational assumptions about the objects, some things make more sense but still show holes. Let’s assume if the lantern is the designated quest (i.e. search for truth), and then light would be the efforts of our search. When our efforts discover something it is light reflecting off the object. The Object is itself, the wall might represent God (it could be many things -like surroundings- but he ties it to God with the assumption comment). How the analogy is worded makes it sound that we assume that discovering God is God. Humm… the ACT of discovery may not be God But what about that wall…? Let’s just redo the whole quote with my assumed substitutions. I’ll start after the second sentence and the wall will be changed to *Life. After reading it though again I believe he thinks the wall is Life event though it is NEVER designated that way. It only makes the most sense in this substitution. (I also tried *God and it worked pretty good as well)
“If I take a lamp and shine it toward the wall, a bright spot will appear on the wall. The lamp is our search for truth, for understanding. Too often we assume the efforts of discovering the *Life is God, but the effort is not the goal of the search, it is the result of the search. The more intense the search, the more the effort is discovering the *Life. The more the effort is discovering the *Life, the greater the revelation upon seeing it. Similarly, someone who does not search, who does not bring a search for truth with him, sees nothing. What we perceive as God is the by-product of our search for God. It may simply be an appreciation of the effort, pure and unblemished. Not understanding that it comes from us, sometimes, we focus our efforts on ourselves and assume we are the center of the universe. God looks astonishingly like we do. Or we turn to look at our lack of effort and assume all is lack of effort. If we allow ourselves to get in the way, we defeat the purpose - which is use the effort of our search to discover the *Life in all its beauty and all it flaws, and in so doing, better understand the world around us.”
Reading through it now shows the small funny contradictions as well as the statements that make sense. I believe the intent of the author was to say “What we perceive as God is the by-product of our search for God” meaning that God only exists because we search for him. What he doesn’t exactly cover is when we DO spot something- like a wall. On our search for God we may find our surroundings, ourselves, life or even gasp God! That’s the problem with the undefined wall. If that wall is God and he is found though searching our stronger effort does produce greater knowledge of him. The wall is not a byproduct of the search.

Finaly!
So the Internet has arrived with force at my place! As you can see there has been quite a few updates to the site. I had a choice between two photos for my header. Either this one-------->
Or this one |
V
So what do you think? Tell me in the Poll!
The new Tomb Raider is out and I donno if I want to get it. I have enough games to keep me busy for a while!
Some background about the photos. The one on the right is from a hike in Cedar City and the one on the left was a hike to Doughnut Falls. People definitely need to get out and hike more! :D I'd post meaningful things but I have a Monster paper to work on. Should I also add a slide show of my son on here?

A Real Weekend
For the first time in a Looooooong time I felt like I had a real weekend. Friday I had a date with my wife. Saturday I woke up early and played with Hunter for an hour or so. Then I went to the library to pick up books to do a report on the beginnings of ancient Japan. Then I got a new dining room table and chairs. Soon we'll have Internet at home. I'll be able to do picture updates, e-mail and whatever else. I got to see Forbidden Kingdom as well which was cool. *sigh* I loved it.

The Finish Line
So- Heather and I were set up for a home loan. but after some discussion we thought it best to be next to friends and family. Even though there is great advantages to having a home instead of an apartment- for mental sanity we decided to go to the same apartments as my Sister Ki and our friends Tom and Jake. They had an apartment already available and so boom!- we get the keys Friday. It'll be verrrrrry fun! I can't wait and I just need to see how we want to move. (TUNZ O STUFF ON THE 25TH)
I really did mean to update the header photo and such but it'll REALLY NEED TO BE DELAYED. After the move is done and every thing's put in place we should be good. Plus I'm back to the books for school-Fall break is over.

What?! No Calls???
So finally on a Friday afternoon, after one HEACK of a week I have time to think. Time slows down at work when I have a few minutes between calls.... AAahhhhhh. ....
I'm lucky to have the wife I do. I come home and she just can't wait for me to play video games! I think she likes the storyline. I'm going though a child hood favorite right now-Chrono Trigger.
Boo Yeah baby! The original time travel story for the SNES. 14 Different endings intriguing storyline and plot twists. All my after school hours went going though this game again and again reliving the sweet sweet moments. I <3 CT !

Bail Out this Rant!
My Rants are short so don't worry.
The Govt. should have left -well enough- alone! The market TANKED after they passed the stupid bailout and now it looks like it will kill things globally. Stupid Stupid Rat Creatures!!! Nothing like having me, Hunter and my grand kids to pay for this Socialist toilet paper. Congrdumalations!
There - done. Not bad huh?
Beside that little rant Life is Great! I'm lovin' it! Heather and I are approved for a loan but we just need to find a house. I plan on looking though Bank owned properties. Cheers!

I can't decide
I've been looking at Spore for some time now and I can't decide if I want it. Maybe I should just fiddle with the creature creator and see if it's something up my alley. Any testimonials?

Definitively decide
So a battle that was raging between to guys on my mish is the new poll for the week and it will definitively decide the answer.
So, Banks and brokers are going under but where I work stays afloat. That's a relief. We were supposed to play Halo yesterday but it turned into Smash Bro. Brawl and a new (for me) game called Geometry wars which is fun and highly addicting. I recommend it to anyone. It has nothing to do with math. It's a simple shooter that is a throw back to the day of classic fun.

Work Humor
This was forwarded to me from a co-worker.... :D
Did you hear about the Texas teacher who was helping one of her kindergarten students put on his cowboy boots?
He asked for help and she could see why. Even with her pulling and him pushing, the little boots still didn't want to go on.
By the time they got the second boot on, she had worked up a sweat. She almost cried when the little boy said, 'Teacher, they're on the wrong feet.'
She looked, and sure enough, they were. It wasn't any easier pulling the boots off than it was putting them on. She managed to keep her cool as together they worked to get the boots back on, this time on the right feet. He then announced, 'These aren't my boots.'
She bit her tongue, rather than get right in his face and scream, 'Why didn't you say so?', like she wanted to.
Once again she struggled to help him pull the ill-fitting boots off his little feet.
No sooner had they gotten the boots off when he said, 'They're my brother's boots. My Mom made me wear 'em.'
Now she didn't know if she should laugh or cry. But she mustered up what grace and courage she had left to wrestle the boots on his feet again.
Helping him into his coat, she asked, 'Now, where are your mittens?' He said, 'I stuffed 'em in the toes of my boots.'
She will be eligible for parole in a few years.

POLLS!!!
So This is quickly becoming a Poll and update blog. I always liked the question I asked. I've thought of it every so often since I was a kid.
As for the update Heather and I got bunch of fairly new furniture really cheep from her sister. Now if we could only upgrade our residence..... It looks like Heather is now happier than ever by just having a job so it looks as though we will pay off the car first and then get our own place.
I feel ... i donno ... saddened I wasn't able to follow though with the condo. With my schedule now it seems like it is best to wait. *sigh*

Mid Poll Update!
The score is close! Star Wars is down by one! Come on all you Jedi Fans! Use your force to stage a come back! For you Trekies you don't want your lead to slip away in a worm hole do you? Come on and let both side roll!
Olympic Hand Ball
I have to admit, I have found a new sport to watch I like. Hand Ball.
This isn't the school yard racket ball with your hand. Two teams on a field about basket ball size throw a hand held ball into goals smaller than soccer. There's a marked off area around the goal. The teams can't step in the goalie area as they try to score and defend; they can leap instead.
It looks fun and east to set up. I want to try that.

Crack Laced Oxicotton
When you first watch Dr. Horrible Sing along Blog you think,"Gee, this is funny. The song are pretty cool. I'll probably never think about them much."
Two weeks later you start reciting the Bad Hose songs.... and then your hooked. I had the duet at the beginning of the second episode and the "You're gonna die" song uninvitedly stuck in my head. Worst of all my computer wasn't connecting back to the Internet to listen to them and get them out of my mind. Then as I work with "tech support" I them make it so my other computer in the house doesn't work on the net! ARRRRG! I should have followed Adam's advice and left well enough alone....(kinda a funny phrase no?)

Getting There Early
So... run down time. We never got a hold of the owner to that house, oh well it got us thinking about getting our own home. I'm going to be at the U of U again this fall. Bye bye evenings. Heather is planing on working at Smiths so she can help pay off the car QUICK. I need to post photo's, print and organize them. I spent the second half of last week hanging out with Heather and her niece Bailey because Bailey's Aunt (her fathers side) had an infection of the bran from a hearing aid that went into her skull. She's okay now- basically deaf again but okay.
Today I needed to Trax to work and I happened to catch an earlier train. Hey, I think... I'll get to work early! 5400 south right next to the new hospital there's a THUNK and a hard break. Everyone lurches forward. It felt like the wheel got stuck or something. Looking left to the platform, by standers cupped the mouths in silent horror. Some people rushed to the rear of the platform, others slowly staggered forward in a trance. On the train we pressed our heads to the glass. We could see the legs of a woman in jeans laying next to the train draped over her bike. After a few seconds two nurses came forward trying to get out. The door was stuck. A young man, with a little bit of grunge look, got to the door popped off the plastic to the emergency door release and turned the knob. The tall folding doors broke open a few inches and they forced the rest. I stood there observing, slightly ashamed I didn't think to open the door by emergency latch. A group gathered around the fallen woman giving enough room for people to get to her freely. The view from the door made me hold my breath. She wasn't moving.
After a minute I noticed the nurses weren't doing anything besides searching for a pulse. Either she was dead or they didn't need to do anything. I was hoping for the latter. I was strangely calm and noticed how others where shocked, calling people, pacing and looking down the road for the paramedics to come. A siren blared in the distance. Ironic this happened next to the hospital. I noticed the woman's stomach full and round. Was she pregnant? Listening to the mumblings of people around some asked how it happened. A young gentleman explained to one questioner how he tried to grab her, and pull her back but didn't get to her in time. She had been standing near the edge of the platform and bent over to fix her shoe and didn't see the train coming.
Finally I saw her ribs heave in hurt breaths. Never has hearing painful cries been such a relief. I moved to the other side of the group and got a view of her face. It was twisted with pain and had a blotch of blood beneath but it looked like she would be okay. A minute later paramedics arrived.
It was going to be be a while to get the train going so I grabbed my bike and caught another bus to get to work.
Late by 15 minutes.

House & Home
At first Heather and I were playing around with going to the Mark Twain Apartments . After realizing we can get a good starter home for the same price we started vaguely looking. Well, there turns up a house right next door to one of my wife's really cool sisters.
He apparently was getting a divorce and this was a rental property he had. Apparently the tenants didn't leave it in a *cough cough* pristine condition. With all the handy men on my wife's side of the family as well as my own, I'm willing to get it as is as long as it's uh... shall we say discounted?
Yeah, great plans and vision.. Now I need to talk to the owner and the bank. *cross fingers.*

My First Editing Job
Well, my brother needed to do a creative sample for George Wythe College. I filmed it Tuesday and took Wednesday off and had 8 hours of editing to get it good enough. Originally I had done a full 15 min video, but for this decided to cut it down a lot. Here are the highlights and bloopers.
I also switched to using You Tube because the feed and quality are faster and better.
So I guess that means my bro is POPULAR! LOL

The Dark Knight
There are few movies that leave me speechless at the end where I just want to absorb it. This ranks among the honored few. I am constantly stunned at the phenomenal ability of the writer/directors to weave in such profound themes, make it real and have it hit home. It's all subtle but powerful. Many other movies make it campy or trite. The Dark Knight tells the story and lets you glean from it what you want. Everyone goes off about performances. I say bagh! It is the story and the way it's told that makes a movie for me. Given... the acting must be a part of that but it doesn't ever cover for bad writing production. I love it. I will own it.
Heather was creeped out by Joker, who did great. (I really can't think of him as Heath Ledger it was that much different) I thought the Bat bike was going to be a -hey look at my toy thing- but how it comes into being really worked. :D -A MUST SEE.

Do Something Weekday! YAY!
So I took Wednesday off- I needed it. Tuesday I was asked by Nate's wife to tape him for a creative sample to submit for George Wythe College. I happily tromped over and taped him in his various elements.
I knew editing would take a while. hehehe.. about 8 hours. It was fun and the time whent FAST. I belive I will post just some parts later. (with permission of course) I need to take a day to do the hike! wow....

Kitty wants some candy.....
I thought the Cat would have been a better contender in the poll. I did figure 2 would go to the chicken. heh heh heh... Have fun with the new Poll btw. My plan is to put some photo's on later today. *crossing fingers* As long as there's not too many honey do's- I know I need to mow the lawn.
So, I've been tinkering around with the idea of being a Seminary teacher. I know that besides real estate investing teaching is my ideal job--- I think I inhaled too much pixie dust...
From what I know (which is limited) it'll be easy to get certified for it (i.e. less than a year) and will probably pay more than where I'm at now (customer service). Really, I just need to finish getting a degree and I'll get a pay boost where ever I'm at. But I just really like teaching-it's fun. I'll look into it in detail to night so hopefully it won't also delay photo's

Wake UP!
Aerosmith keeps goin' though my head buy just this part.
Wake up kid, its half past your youth
Ain't nothin' really changes but the date
You a grand slammer, but you no Babe Ruth
You gotta learn how to relate
Or you'll be swingin' from the pearly gate
Now you got all the answers, low and behold
You got the right key baby but the wrong key ho, yo
*shrug*

All You Need is a Little Pixy Dust.
I got one of the best complements ever on the 4th of July. Bailey, my wife's niece, said that I was just like one of the grand kids.(meaning Holly's grand kids) Basically she was saying I was like one of the kids.
Suddenly I had flash in my mind a picture of myself wearing a green tunic and shorts with a fairy hanging around. I laughed.
I don't think I'll ever lose the youthful perspective. How that'll work with my own kids I donno... but I thought it was cool. It's sad when adults can't relate to youth. They were one once anyway! Do people turn off their brains during childhood and so when they're adults, and turn them on, they have sprung forth fully formed like Venus from the head of Zeus? OR... Do they turn off their brains and never turn them on so they only see now and themselves?
VOTE! I'm calling for a Vote on that! Leave your vote in the comments!

Sumer Fun
So I did it. I got a bike. A cheep bike.
Wal-Mart Full Suspension mountain bike for $99. Other stores for the same thing was like $150-200. I hate twist shifters and regular tires but this is easily remedied. Special order the trigger shifters, get thorn resistant tires *the ones that are thick- NOT FILLED WITH GOO!!! evil stupid goo....* plus tire protectors (thank you Mr Tuffy!) and Viola! A good decent bike for $200 less (at least).
I'll have to wait 'till tomorrow for the extra stuff but- this will be how I get to work!
Personally I like the idea of just riding around parks and trails at night in the cool fun summer air. Ahhh......
BTW enjoy the longer time for this poll and sorry for not getting it out earlier.

Wow Busy
I wanted to put fun creative stuff on here but I find busy work limits the stuff I expound on.
With news on gas probably going to $5 a gallon and eventually $7 in a year or two, I'm SERIOUSLY considering TRAXing it to work with a Bike. It would be a 5 min ride to the firs station and 10 min to work at the end station. I'd save $200 a month. (or $150 if I fuel up once a month)

Jumper
It was Good movie. Heather thought it was good too...good that we had only spent a dollar. The Story follows a young man who discovers he can "jump" or teleport to any place he's been. At first he lives the high life and makes money by robbing banks with damaging anything. He returns to his home town to try and romance his high school love who always wanted to travel. He botches things up by not telling about his power and by being chased by an underground anti-jumper group who are known as paladins. I liked weighing the moral/ethical implications of both sides, but I'm funny like that.
All in all a great guy flick, fun to see not to own. I give it 8.0

So, for the survivors of the nuclear war you'd have to face electrified zombies. Normally they drown you but some will torture and burn you. Mmmmmm pretty picture no? Enjoy the holocaust!

My Beef With Sayings
Here's a whopper! "The Rich get Richer and the Poor Get Poorer" I had a lady make that statement to me, and I know it's common and considered quite adapt but what do you say to that? The only thing you CAN do is say "yup, you're right..." Otherwise you sound heartless. "Naw, people just need to get off their lazy butt..."
Has the Poor really gotten poorer? (I known my English has) Average earnings increase, what were once luxuries are common place and cheep. Average living is always getting better! WELL.... what about Inflation?!? Everything costs more don't it?!? Yes, but goods respectively still stay cheep or get cheaper. At worst a family breaks even like the family of the past, but that "even" line is higher than it used to be, and tends to rise as availability of things rise as well.
What is the saying supposed to do to you anyway? Tick you off. If you are getting richer are you rich? I'm getting richer. Even if I stay an employee for ages and "work up the cooperate ladder" I'm getting richer does that make me Rich? What about Ed McMahon loosing his home, is he Poor? More evidently it used to say "Those selfish rich B*$&!*ds! They always bilk the little guy and leave 'em in the dust. They never lift their fellow man!" etc. Or it says "Life Sucks for everyone. (but the few"
I'm not a victim of the system. It is what it is. Learn the Rules and play by the set that gets you where you want to be! The Rich do get Richer by knowing how to innovate, create, and build. They often improve the lives of their fellow man by doing so. The poor get poorer only if they lack vision, ambition, and drive. Any person can make their life better if they try. Even those with terrible hands dealt to them become strong and overcome as they rise to meet the challenge.
The Rich get richer and the Poor get poorer only if they want it to be that way. It's a cool saying but it just hit me that - it doesn't really fit in my life.

MOVIES!
Yea! Everyone loves movies!
So, Prince Caspian was Awesome. I like seeing the characters grow and be different. Edmund is now cool-HUZAAH! It is funny to remember the kids at one point were adults. I suggest it for any Narnia fans. I haven't read the book so I don't know how it follows the book. A definite 9.0 movie.
Kung Fu Panda was very cute and fun. The characters are great and the action fun and lively. The lesson of the Dragon Scroll was fun and refreshing. A definitely worth it movie. Another 9.0
*shudder* Don't Mess With The Zohan... ever, just don't. It was dumb. The movie was 90% innuendo humor with old women, 9% making fun of everyone, and 1 pathetic percent crawling in half dead (I had to poke it with a stick) inspirational message. Two thumbs way down and a flopping 4.0 score. I gave it that much only for the few cool action scenes at the beginning and some semblance that the Palestinians and Israel should get along. Not much was genuinely funny, although the Hezbollah hot line was pretty good.
Any other suggestions for a review? Leave a comment!

I'm Alive!
Yup. Didn't die. Literally at least. I did die of boredom the first day I was there. So, the way down was cool and I slept in the only cool spot of Arizona near Flagstaff. That was an awesome night. Sunday I arrive at my hotel.
Hotels were invented by sadists. Most have no way to cook i.e. a microwave, or fridge and you must pay for EVERYTHING. Movies are out and so is the Internet. I wept. All that was left was TV. Uhg... I loath TV. I had no educational channels, cartoon network has crappy cartoons now, and it all just...blech LOL. So I had to have meals centered around having only hot water, Ramen anyone? and I read. a lot.
After that first day I was giddy and busy learning market and deal analysis, strategies, implementation and more. Boo yah!
I noticed this poll was the most widely distributed but we are generally disturbed tea pots in the country. Next time I'll probably review Prince Caspian and Kung Fu Panda!

Soon I go to a better place... well.. not really... it's actually quite hot... umm...
Yeah. No I'm not going to ... well, you never can tell. But I know I AM going to Arizona for a week! I'll be attending the great illustrious school of NRU! So for the next while I may be out of the loop. I'm getting the next stage of education to effectively buy and sell homes for a profit! It is my goal to do at least one deal by the end of the year. When that happens I may do even more by the end of the year. heh heh heh.
I'll post if I can, but the hiking video project may be on hold a bit.

I'll Huff! And I'll Puff! And I'll......
So after surfing the web at HowStuffWorks.Com Looking up tornadoes (one of the more mundane things I've looked up) I found a link to building houses out of straw bales. It was because of it's energy efficiencies and other great attributes it was on the sight. I looked into it and I think I actually want to build my house like this! Check out this house! it's a prime example!
Better Insulation
Better Strength
Better Sound Absorption
Better Fire Resistance
What's not to like?
BTW Tornadoes are mundane because I have NERD tattooed across my forehead. I look up things like how radios, diodes, and magnets work so I can eventually create a magnetic generator for my own "free" electricity even though it isn't really free. The power company will have to pay for it. heh heh heh... I love capitalism.

The New Poll
Batman and Superman move over! BONE and the Marvel crew are here to stay! For those of you who have no clue who BONE is ... REPENT!...and click on the link. I... am evenly split over the two myself so hey! whadoyaknow? I did get to follow GenX, which was an awesome part of the Marvel universe! (I still have ye old comics) But I still love BONE to death. Bone is the comic for those who don't like comics.
I did a killer hike this weekend, and I'm feelin' it. Hunter kept leaning left so my muscles on the right are sore. I did tape it so a movie is forth coming... and it has legs in it!
I also made a few additions to the bottom of the coulumns. *enjoy!*

The Next Project
I'm kind of torn. I like doing the videos now that I can :D but I love posting funny stuff and pictures. I think my next project should be photos... of legs. That was the winning request. I'm probably going to get Heather to film all the cute kids around us i.e. Hunter, Lilly, Zane, Valor and all other Nephews and Nieces. Everyone loves cute videos!...right? (I Hope you're not kid haters!)
I also need to get Jake to post his comics or I'll do it for him. They are funny!
BTW... Boris is watching you.... Heed his message! (*cough* *bottom Right!*)

At the Office
Heather and I went to the Chiropractor the other day. Dr. Jim is an awesome guy. We always get to talking and joking as he makes comments on how much you pop when he adjust you.
Dr. Jim: "Holey Toledo!"
Me: "Ohio!"
Heather: "Gozimas"
Me: "Huh?"
Heather: "You should always say 'Gozaimas' after you say 'Ohio' in Japanese!"
Me: "But I was talking about the state. You know, Toledo.... Ohio..."
Heather: "Gozaimas!"
LOLZ!

Watch and laugh!
As soon as I figure out how to work some video editing software you're gonna have some funny hilarity ensuing. By the way the Poll is done! Votes are in!
It is amusing that NO ONE wanted to hear any deep thoughts. It's a tie between Funny stories and Legs with 4 votes each. More photos was close and had 3 votes. It got an early lead but amusement and appealing body parts won. I like the whole Poll idea I think I'll do it once a week so keep VOTING! There's a new one on the left.

If I were King of the Forrrrreeeeessst!
So I slept passed my alarm and was rewarded with the coolest of dreams. Before the alarm I was in a run down city in a lush place and there was a very smart girl tagging along with me and my wife. I was teaching her different things and she wanted to finish this mentoring session later by tagging along to our home. She had to stop by and ask her parents first and I was asked to help in her behalf. I soon learned why.
The house was nice on the inside but the mother was.... a wreck? Paranoid and irrational at least. The Father was cool though. Each time I explained what and why her daughter wanted to learn and get mentoring she would interrupt, twist my words and make me sound like an insidious villain. The Dad was happy outgoing and smart he was going to let me help.
After turning off the alarm, I proceeded to my place where I was greeted by a procession of people in run down vehicles. They were picking up my stuff from my run down house and taking me to a large old beat up mansion. I sense a pattern here....I was informed that the ruler had passed away and I was to be king! I must have been on some island nation or something. The people were Polynesian of some type. My bother Nathan was there and I asked him to be my right hand man. They were unloading our things and I looked around the mansion. It wasn't much but hey, with work it would be nice. There was a grand lawn and stream near by.
While seeing to my personal effects I was summoned by a person to "something of utmost importance." There were government officials about to clear the stream by blasting it with water and flooding it briefly to clear things out. The person who summoned me said the little pieces of trash would pollute the growing fields downstream and that a brave and worthy king would dare to fight the current and keep the kingdom clean.
Yeah, he was just being a jerk. I said fine but that "In my kingdom everyone must work to preserve it" so he should help me. The king is not above his subject but he serves them as an example. I also added that if he didn't help he would be exiled from the kingdom. Reluctantly he joined but was touched by the humble show of force and principle. Even though He got hosed (literally) by the workers, he and others were getting the idea of who I was and how I would be.
Hail to the King baby.

It Arrrriiived! Arrived I say! Arrived!
So my Mother's Day / Birthday present for Heather came. Funny enough, the UPS guy left it at the back door. I don't think he wanted to lug the 5 foot box back and say it was undelivered. Heather was so happy she squealed with joy. After regaining my hearing, and a chiropractor visit, it was set up. (by Thom) Even I couldn't keep my hands off of it. Heather had to pry me away. Anyway, I think she and I will like it for years to come. It will also never get out of tune. Electronic piano keyboards are cool like that.

We also had enough Cash Back Bonus from our Discover card we got a fun small camcorder. Another thing Heather's wanted and that I know I'll have fun with. Every time I've heard things about Flip Video it's been good things. (hint- some stores are selling the Ultra 60 min kind $20 less *Sam's Club*cough*)That should arrive -hopefully- today! *cross fingers* Then you may see an occasional VLOG! Darth Vlogger will emerge and take over the universe! Come to the dark side, we have cookies! -V
At least you'll be able to see Hunter be all cute, and crazy adventures, and stupid rants, and... well..... we'll see. BTW take my poll on the left. <------- and check out Guido in the bottom left. He does mean things when you don't leave comments. This site is so jam packed and full of color. Am I ADD? Ooo! bunny!

Mush
Mother's day was great! I made Heather feel like a million bucks and I'm happy she enjoyed it. It's a much better change of pace to other Holiday experiences for my wife.
At the end of the day our friend Syhalla came by for some head shots. She's planning on trying out for a part in a play. There were several good ones but this was the winner. As payment, among her repertoire of skill is massage therapy. She helped teach just a bit to both Heather and I. It was sssssoooooooooo nice. I is still puddle today. We want to learn so it will be benefit for the family. Heh, what better way to round out Mother's day than to end with a massage?

Reviewing Reviews
Wow. So, for fun I've been surfing around to the blogs about Expelled. Comments are really interesting. You can tell people who have actually seen the movie, and those who haven't. First, anyone mentioning how it's creationist "propaganda" hasn't seen it and is writing in ignorance or are just dumb, deaf, and blind while watching the movie. The same goes for anyone who says it's all about anti-Darwin stuff. Although there are few people who share expressions of doubt on evolution, it isn't about that, nor is it about establishing the evidence for Intelligent Design.
It's about the established scientific institution repressing alternate scientific ideas; specifically ID. It shows the damages caused by this heavy-handedness, and other damages in the past. With such an emotionally charged issue Expelled is really turning heads and also turning over the ugly side of some people.
Whether your evolutionary-atheist, evangelical-Christean, or plain old American, the message is important. Freedom of inquiry, freedom for pursuit of truth, freedom from persecution. Freedom is the antidote to prejudice, and the catalyst to achievement.

Game and Movie Reviews!
Okay, lets feast our eyes on the movies first. I was finally able to see Ben Stein's Expelled, No Intelligence Allowed. I've been anticipating this movie since I knew of it's existence. It just happened to co-inside with my philosophy paper, I thought- What are the chances!? It deals directly with the oppression of free inquiry in science because it goes against the "consensus". I knew what it was about, but I was still blown away. Anyone seeking intellectual freedom needs to see this movie. Most times if you go with high expectations it either disappoints or is what you thought it would be. Expelled blew past all that. It was the best, informative and entertaining documentary I've seen, and it's very poignant.
Okay, I caved. I got a good couple of hundred dollars from overtime and splurged. I got Wii Play to get a 4th and last controller. (I'm a social gamer) and the Coup De Grace was Mario Cart Wii.
I LOVE IT. The beginning levels may be a bit bland but it's perfect to cut your teeth on. The way to win is to master drifting, the drift boost and using ANY kind of jump to boost you. Learn on the easy levels because latter on it becomes madness! Madness I tell you! The Levels look like happy suicide, mixed with "are you kidding me?" to spare. Stirr in a host of crazy items and you get death rockets in the insane world of Mushroom Kingdom.
Trying to get used to the newest rendition of the"Rainbow Road" was hilarious. Hovering over the planet Earth, with minimal rails on the sides, doing insane curves, loops, and half pipes I ended up incinerating from reentry over Antarctica, Siberia, Europe, and several other spots. Hint... on the figure 8 double half pipe GO RIGHT first. Many of the new levels are just gorgeous and fun to drive. Moon View Highway is exhilarating with oncoming traffic. Once you enter the toll area you can get continuous boosts if you drive the right path and you'll start to hear the sirens of cops who won't catch up. *chuckle* You think in a loop they could catch you but no...
There are a bunch off classic levels from all the previous Mario Carts for die hard fans. Though they're nostalgic I think I like the crazy of the new stuff.
The WiFi play is great. NO LAG AT ALL. It is tough competition, fun, and you can pick up at any time. If my friends don't want to come out to play, I can roll with bro's in Japan, England, and all over. I tried the online play this morning, once, and had my butt handed to me on a pre-used soggy paper plate. My resolve is hardened. I will be a contender!

Light at the End of the Tunnel
The End is NEAR! No, the apocalyptic type, though were not that far off.... I'm saying of philosophy class! My paper is done and proof read and rearranged, (thanks Ki) polished and looking good. TODAY is the final. *gasp* and then it's over. I wonder if my teacher will choke on my paper or just dismantle it without response for his own pleasure. *meh*
The glorious gem of research and argument is showing how evolution should be kept as a hypothesis being worked on because of all the scientific criticisms and gaps. This is an important first part because the rest shows how we are being force fed something incomplete as fact that also represses free inquiry and the pursuit of viable options. Scientists supporting intelligent design conform to the rules of science. I'm talking about scientists who do legitimate research who conclude that only an intelligent designer could have produced this out come.
Pushing evolution as complete fact rejects other options and allows a hostile atmosphere against anyone who questions it. Science is stiff arming people into "consensus". When was truth established by democracy instead of facts and evidence? Although the paper deals with evolution the idea is seen in things like global warming, which causes all sorts of idiocracy.
Take ethanol. It takes gasoline to produce, does nearly nothing to reduce price, takes away space for food crops, etc. By the way several countries are facing starvation, any connection? I think so. Making the world green should be done though innovation not legislation.
Any hoot, there is probably a movie review and game review above this, or that's the plan... enjoy!

The Case for Free Will.
Okay, so I was stirring the pot hopping for more reactions on the previous post of You Have NO Free Will. For those who did post gratitude flows your way. By the time I posted the argument I had already discovered it's weakness.
There is a doubling up of definitions and the point of view is from looking back and not being in the moment. The definition says "Sufficient Reason=There is enough reason (or cause) to guarantee the out come of a decision." Saying sufficient is guaranteed is a fallacy and doubles the definition. Ask anyone, what's the difference between sufficient and guaranteed? Sufficient is enough of, it meets minimum requirement for, it fulfills the need. Guaranteed is absolute, definite, couldn't be another way. One says you have room for more the other does not. You cannot substitute one as the other.
This means at the moment of decision if you have sufficient cause to chose one way, you can have sufficient cause to go several ways and it does not guarantee anything. It is your own choice preconditioned or not. You can go against the environment and conditioning. Choice abounds in every moment. We may have patterns and habits but anyone can see those can be broken or remade. Life lays gloriously open to us in a field of options.
The other problem of the argument is it views certainty from a future point due to hindsight. It was saying you had to make that decision be cause you made that decision which makes it a circular argument.
In the end you have sufficient reason for several choices and it's up to you. The boy from the hood can buck the trend, find a new path and get away from the ghetto. There are living stellar examples out there. Congratulations you are a free agent able to act in any way you choose. You are also free to receive the consequences of those actions.

2. 5 things on my to-do list today: It's at home.... Lemme see If I remember. i)Get a bunch of rechargeable batteries for the Wii. ii)Finish transferring E*trade money to company 401(k). iii) Pack up stuff for Zaio. iv)Call ACS to see if I need to do a summer semester to delay student loan. v)Finnish my edit of Philosophy paper and submit first draft.
3. Snacks I enjoy:Nuts-I'm a cannibal- and sugary things i.e. cookies, brownies etc.
4. What I would do if I were suddenly made a billionaire:No debt, invest in real estate, start or buy businesses to have perpetual money generation, set up education funds for kids, build Heather and I's dream house with her killer kitchen and my mini laboratory. I'd also have a landing strip for my powered parachute, get a teaching degree and have fun molding the minds of impressionable vic- students.

You have NO Free Will.
Okay, So I just feel dirty posting this but this was a serious argument for no free will.
So, Philosophy is fun....
Here's the definitions, then I'll give the argument, and lastly examples.
Sufficient Reason=There is enough reason (or cause) to guarantee the out come of a decision.
P1) If every human decision has sufficient reason there is no way we could have done otherwise and are not morally accountable because it couldn't have gone another way.
P2) If there is a decision done without s.r. then it is pure chance and also makes it so you are not morally accountable because it was chance.
P3) Either P1 or P2 is always the case.
---------------------------------
C1) Therefore you are not morally accountable (or have no free will)
Okay, now to take it out of Philosophy jargon/setup and put it into examples. When you make a choice you have sufficient reason for doing so; i.e. Why do you go to work? - Money, support, bad stuff happens if I don't etc. So you went to work and you really couldn't have done otherwise. I'll blow off work and hit the slopes! Ha! that shows you!
Not really... See, you chose to hit the slopes because you had enough of work and were trying to prove a point so that is your sufficient reason which caused you to take that path which couldn't have been done another way. Each time you play out a decision you have the reasons from beforehand and it guarantees the outcome.
So what if you really don't care or the input is equal? It's chance! Again you can't be responsible for chance and even choosing to let chance decide was a decision from sufficient reason where you couldn't have done otherwise. For example- Do I wear a red or blue shirt? I have an in-law family function or my family function, which do I go to? If they're equal you can only do chance. If you hate your family or the in-laws you are guaranteed a decision.
You might argue- "Yeah but even if my reasons are set up before I do something I made those reasons! So that's my choice!" Well... are your views on the world that made those reasons affected by the environment? your Friends? what you were told as a kid? Really, everything is presented to you, and you have sufficient reason to either accept or reject those ideals from the input that you weren't responsible for as a kid.
Think about it- the kid in the slums- what's his truth? what's his reality? His life view built up as a kid was that dealing drugs and being a gangster is how you survive- that's life. Period. Can you hold him responsible?
How do you like not having Free Will? or responsibility?

A Little taste...
How are you feeling today?
Creative flash is fun! This is one shot. These are the fun things you can do with the right equipment. There is another- I donno if I should post it now or do that more toward Halloween. Bwahahahah! (post feed back) So Besides photography assignments getting done I finished gathering info for my philosophy paper so that should be done (version 1) by this week. Poor little Hunter got his first eye infection but is handling it quite well. So I'll probably do some deep meaningful update, thoughts and rants soon enough. Especially since my paper is going to be on Macro-evolution. Yay for blunt foreshadowing!Tuesday, March 25, 2008
Starry Night
Why do I love Astronomy? Let me count the ways..... 1.....2.....3......billion....*this may take a while.....
Click on it for a better view.
So yeah, Taxes are done and YAY! I have a pro flash to use now! My next mountains to climb are the Philosophy paper and upcoming photo assignments. Although I will enjoy fill in flash now that I have one that wont make you look like a plastered white nasty thing. OY veh! my eyes are tired... my extra curricular activities must wait.

The Long Shot
Hey hey! I'm half done with taxes! *blurry eyed but half done!* Once that's actually done I need to do some long shots. I have some that are really neat from before, but I have some cool ideas. I need to get to a Trax station downtown to get a nice long exposure. BTW the header picture for the title is temporary but enjoy the view! I may have one that changes each month or something.

What A Day!
Let me preface this blog before I continue. I feel Great. This is not a post for sympathy or complaining. It's a post for scratching your head, saying *huh*, and smiling at life and how good it is.
So, I ordered a new flash and remote shutter release for my camera and it got delivered Monday even though it was in Salt Lake on Saturday. (UPS doesn't deliver on weekends) Only to find out I need a voltage adapter for my camera to control it. So I order a new one and accidentally picked the option which delivers it in 5 days instead of 3, which is a difference of 50 cents or so, but it pushed back my camera assignment project to Monday next week when I wanted it done during spring break this week.
At work I'm pretty tired and my first call had a lady determined about talking to someone she talked to before to get tax info. I said I'd e-mail her to call. With her gone, I found out I couldn't find who she was talking about. So I lead her to a dead end and she didn't know it. I then find out I had made some mistakes in processing 2 calls from earlier days. I had to use my breaks to go back and fix them. I then get one of those calls where the person seems to have done all the right things yet they didn't get the right result so it's all your fault even though it's most likely an oversight on their part or the company / function between them and us. Despite a great run with the company they'll drop you simply because we should have fixed it. (even if it would be impossible- they decided we are to blame despite any evidence otherwise) Well, I did get back to the lady from the first call (using my breaks) to figure out what info she needed. Then on the last break I got her, her tax people, and one of our tax people all together to let the information flow. YAY! That was an above and beyond moment that was nice. To catch up in finances I take over time until 9pm which pushes back my taxes, other photo projects, and philosophy paper. Although, the philosophy paper I worked on while at work - between calls. A 12 Hour day.
Finally on my way home just down the street from where I work there was literally a chunk of the road in the middle of the street. I swerved to miss it but ended up hitting it with my newly replace rear left tire. The chunk was seriously 7-10 inches thick, as wide as a torso, and popped up out of the nearby road. This promptly flattens my tier by making a large dent in the wheel rim. The rubber tire may actually be okay but 3-5 inch dented rim will need replacing, which I 'll need to fit in the precious rare evening time that belongs to myself because work needs all hands for tax season, so no day off. Saturday's more overtime too... My wife is feeling ill, my son is sick and not holding food down, and I'm waking up to feed him. Work will be especially busy because of updated tax information notices we're sending out. :D LOL! WOW HUH?!
It's funny! like I said at the beginning- I am smiling and happy! Not because of these things! But Because Life Is Gooooood! I don't know why (perhaps you could explain) but despite aaaallllllll these things life isn't that bad! I know this could totally depress people by reading it but really, just think about it. You smile, shrug, say*huh*, and everything feels great! You just keep on going though it and it just gets done! It's not the end of the world! The world is better because if your experience. Thought you should see how I see life on a day like today. Come see the world through my lens. -Andy
